What are Connectors?

A Connector is a direct link, created in the Dstny Analytics platform and based on a saved report's data. It is added into external systems, such as Microsoft Power BI, Microsoft Excel, and Qlik, to present Dstny Analytics data next to other information in that system.

Dstny Analytics Platform provides a lot of data in user-friendly reports and Dashboard widgets. Sometimes companies wish to export the data into an external system to compare it with other types of company data or information. This can help them gain even more insights and add additional value to their data. Connectors provide an easy way to integrate data from the Dstny Analytics Platform into other systems, without any technical knowledge or custom integrations.

How to create a Connector?

A Connector is based on a saved report and its data. So to create a Connector, you first need to create a saved report with selected measurement objects you would like to present in an external system.

Once a report is created and saved, go to the saved reports view in the Dstny Analytics Platform. Create a Connector by clicking on the icon for the external system you want to create the Connector towards. A dialog will then open and let you configure your Connector further.

Note: It is a good practice to keep the Time period of the connector to a minimum. Long time frames (> 3 months) are not recommended, and the option Fixed start date should only be used temporarily for troubleshooting.

Be advised that once enabled and saved the Connector link will give anyone with the link access to the data. Handle the link in a safe way and consider it as a password.

How to increase security?

If you want to increase the security of a Connector you can “Enable access token”. The link will no longer be sufficient to access the data. The access token will be required in the headers of the request from the external system. Check the guide of the specific Connector on how to add the header.

Once the Connector is set, all there is to do to present the latest data from it is to click refresh on the link in the external system. There is no need for exporting/importing the data – it’s all happening automatically, through a data-source solution.
